BUILD THE CAPACITY TO LEAD
IN THE FACE OF UNCERTAINTY

BUILD THE CAPACITY TO LEAD IN THE FACE OF UNCERTAINTY

Overview

Too many mission-driven leaders are burned out, isolated, and overwhelmed by challenges that standard leadership training fails to address. They’re not hungry for more content, but for more capacity to lead effectively in the face of complexity, challenge, and change.

That’s exactly why The Arc of Change exists.

Founded by Abel R. Cano, The Arc of Change helps leaders build the courage, craft, and capacity to lead change, without burning out.

Abel R. Cano is a leadership trainer, community organizer, and storyteller with over 15 years of experience training thousands of leaders across nonprofits, governments, universities, and grassroots movements. He has worked directly alongside Professor Marshall Ganz for over a decade and taught across multiple Harvard schools. As one of the most experienced trainers in the global Leading Change Network, Abel teaches Public Narrative and Community Organizing with fidelity and craft; delivering powerful, heart-led programs that help people effectively lead change in the face of uncertainty.

You’ll explore each craft step-by-step through our four-part experiential pedagogy: Explain, Model, Practice, Debrief.

  • Explain the core element of the practice
  • Model what it looks like in action
  • Practice in small groups with expert coaching and real-time feedback
  • Debrief and crystallize your learning, gaining wisdom from the group

Public Narrative:

Storytelling as a Leadership Practice

Motivated Leaders. Stronger Teams. Massive Results.

Public Narrative is storytelling as a leadership practice.

When facts alone aren’t enough to move people, story becomes essential. It helps leaders access the emotional resources required to exercise agency, enabling our hearts to equip our heads to guide our hands.

Developed by Professor Marshall Ganz at Harvard University and taught by Abel R. Cano, Public Narrative empowers leaders to translate values into action and enable the leadership of others through a Story of Self, Us, and Now.

Whether you’re leading a team, growing a movement, or stepping into your voice for the first time, this is your foundation.

The Liberation

Leadership Lab:

Agency, Identity & Renewal

Awaken Agency. Lead with Courage. Advance Liberation.

In the nonprofit sector today, burnout is no longer an exception, it’s the norm.

Leaders and staff alike are overwhelmed by rising tensions, chronic turnover, and an exhausting culture of conflict avoidance and quiet quitting. Many are questioning whether it’s even possible to stay in the work they once felt called to.

The truth is, leading real change requires more than wanting things to be better. It demands a different kind of leadership.

This six-session journey equips leaders to embrace challenges with courage, build bridges across difference, and reclaim the agency to lead with integrity, even in the face of complexity, challenge, and change.

Developed by Abel R. Cano at Harvard University, The Liberation Leadership Lab™ was created to meet this moment.

Session 3:

Responding vs. Reacting – Navigating Triggers
