BUILD THE CAPACITY TO LEAD IN THE FACE OF UNCERTAINTY
Overview
Too many mission-driven leaders are burned out, isolated, and overwhelmed by challenges that standard leadership training fails to address. They’re not hungry for more content, but for more capacity to lead effectively in the face of complexity, challenge, and change.
That’s exactly why The Arc of Change exists.

Founded by Abel R. Cano, The Arc of Change helps leaders build the courage, craft, and capacity to lead change, without burning out.
Abel R. Cano is a leadership trainer, community organizer, and storyteller with over 15 years of experience training thousands of leaders across nonprofits, governments, universities, and grassroots movements. He has worked directly alongside Professor Marshall Ganz for over a decade and taught across multiple Harvard schools. As one of the most experienced trainers in the global Leading Change Network, Abel teaches Public Narrative and Community Organizing with fidelity and craft;Â delivering powerful, heart-led programs that help people effectively lead change in the face of uncertainty.

Public Narrative:Â Â
Storytelling as a Leadership Practice
Motivated Leaders. Stronger Teams. Massive Results.
Public Narrative is storytelling as a leadership practice.Â
When facts alone aren’t enough to move people, story becomes essential. It helps leaders access the emotional resources required to exercise agency, enabling our hearts to equip our heads to guide our hands.Â
Developed by Professor Marshall Ganz at Harvard University and taught by Abel R. Cano, Public Narrative empowers leaders to translate values into action and enable the leadership of others through a Story of Self, Us, and Now.
Whether you’re leading a team, growing a movement, or stepping into your voice for the first time, this is your foundation.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING:
PEOPLE, POWER, CHANGE
Enable Others. Build Power. Lead Change.
Many leaders feel called to create change, but find themselves overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure how to invite others to join them.
Community Organizing is how we move from people who live together to people who stand together, transforming the world as it is into the world as it could be.
Organizing is a leadership practice rooted in the belief that lasting change happens when those most impacted by a problem become authors of their own solutions.
Developed by Professor Marshall Ganz at Harvard University, this workshop teaches you how to build the leadership capacity of others through story, strategy and structure.
As a mission-driven leader, this is your path to lead in the face of uncertainty, build distributed leadership, and create lasting change.

Community of Practice: Apply the Learnings, Deepen the Work, Sustain the Growth
Change doesn’t end when a training does. In fact, that’s where the real work begins.Â
Our Communities of Practice (CoP) offer an ongoing, facilitated space to deepen your leadership, stay accountable to your purpose, and strengthen your skills in community with others.
Each cohort is centered around one of our core frameworks — The Liberation Leadership Lab, Community Organizing, or Public Narrative — and is designed to extend the impact of the work beyond a single workshop.
Led by experienced facilitators from The Arc of Change, these sessions blend structured dialogue, peer coaching, and real-time practice, creating a brave space where you can apply what you’ve learned, reflect on your leadership, and keep growing with others on a similar path.
You’ll walk away with:
- Clear integration of the frameworks into your day-to-day leadership practice
- Accountability and encouragement to practice in real time
- A brave and supportive space to test ideas, share insights, and grow in community
- Focused coaching and real-time reflection
- Opportunities to take on peer leadership roles and grow facilitation skills
- Regular touchpoints to stay aligned with your values, purpose, and impact
Ideal for:
Alumni of The Arc of Change programs, nonprofit or movement leaders, trainers, coaches, educators and teams looking to build internal leadership capacity and embed this work more deeply into their organization or community.
Each circle typically meets monthly for 120 minutes over a 6-month period and can be delivered virtually or in-person. Let’s talk about creating the right cadence and focus for your team or network.
Training for Trainers: Build Internal Capacity. Deepen the Craft. Scale Impact
Train your leaders to deliver with excellence, skill, and impact.
When you’re ready to build internal capacity and scale your leadership development efforts, our Training for Trainer programs provide the frameworks, training, and coaching to get you there.
These programs are designed for organizations and institutions seeking to integrate the frameworks of Community Organizing and Public Narrative into their culture, while maintaining the rigor, depth, and transformational impact of the craft.
Each training for trainer track includes:
- Comprehensive training in the frameworks and methodology
- Pedagogical design and facilitation best practices
- Coaching protocols and applied practice
- Observation, feedback, and coaching from our expert team
- A certificate of completion, with pathways for continued mentorship and growth
You can choose from four tracks:

Whether you’re preparing internal staff to train others, integrating these frameworks in your programs, or building a leadership pipeline from within, this is how you scale transformation with integrity.

The Liberation
Leadership Lab:
Agency, Identity & Renewal
Awaken Agency. Lead with Courage. Advance Liberation.Â
In the nonprofit sector today, burnout is no longer an exception, it’s the norm.
Leaders and staff alike are overwhelmed by rising tensions, chronic turnover, and an exhausting culture of conflict avoidance and quiet quitting. Many are questioning whether it’s even possible to stay in the work they once felt called to.
The truth is, leading real change requires more than wanting things to be better. It demands a different kind of leadership.Â
This six-session journey equips leaders to embrace challenges with courage, build bridges across difference, and reclaim the agency to lead with integrity, even in the face of complexity, challenge, and change.
Developed by Abel R. Cano at Harvard University, The Liberation Leadership Lab™ was created to meet this moment.
